Discover Scott Banks

I’ve been working as a stylist for around 33 years, and I always knew hairdressing was the career for me.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted to work in a city-centre salon rather than a village location. I’ve now been managing a team and salon for 24 years, shortly after opening my own salon back in 2002.

I quickly realised just how different running a salon and leading a team is compared to being a stylist, and I’ve loved every part of the journey.

Over the years, I’ve completed countless training courses and continue to invest in my education.

I try to spend a week at Vidal Sassoon each year to keep my skills fresh, stay inspired and, most importantly, remain completely hair-focused so I can always give my best to every client.

Combining the right training and education with my passion for hair has helped me build a highly respected salon brand in Wakefield.

I’m a real all-rounder and enjoy creating whatever walks through my door, but my true passion and core skill is short haircutting. I love creating personalised looks that suit each individual client and, most importantly, are realistic and achievable for them to recreate themselves day to day.

I also really enjoy supporting clients as they navigate the changes that can come with getting older. I understand that hair can become a daily challenge, and I love using my years of experience and knowledge to help clients feel confident, offering advice and guidance wherever I can.

For me, it’s about much more than just hair…

I genuinely love connecting with my clients and feeling that I can make a positive difference to them.

I absolutely love L’ANZA shampoos, treatments and conditioners. For me, condition is king, and these products help me keep my clients’ hair looking and feeling in tip-top condition.

I also love creating big, voluminous blow-dries, and Sebastian Professional Volupt Mousse makes achieving that beautiful body and volume so much easier.

It’s definitely a go-to product when I want to create a really full, bouncy finish.

I’ve lived and breathed Scott Banks Hairdressing for the past 24 years, and I honestly don’t know where those years have gone! I’m incredibly proud to now have a team I love and trust to look after the salon and our clients when I’m not there.

I try to finish at lunchtime on a Saturday and head off to our caravan on the East Coast with my partner, Martin, and our sausage dog, Stan-Lee. It’s our protected time together and something I really look forward to. Of course, I can never completely switch off, so there’s usually the odd bit of work to do before I’m back in the salon on Wednesday – ready to show off a little and tell everyone about our weekend!
